Skincare for Melanin-Rich Skin

Skincare for Melanin-Rich Skin

Melanin-rich skin has been underserved by skincare for too long. These formulations are built specifically around its biology — targeting discolouration at the source, correcting tone safely, and protecting against the triggers that cause pigmentation to return.

Formulated Across the Fitzpatrick Scale

01

AR.02 Sensitive Skin

Characterized by increased reactivity to environmental stressors, with heightened sensitivity in barrier response and visible irritation patterns. Formulations focus on reinforcing barrier integrity, reducing visible reactivity, and supporting skin tolerance under environmental and physiological stress.

Every Product. One System.

Microbiome Barrier Cream

Designed to support barrier integrity in skin prone to reactivity and environmental stress. Biomimetic lipids and microbiome-supportive actives help reinforce moisture retention, maintain hydration balance, and support long-term skin resilience. With continued use, skin appears calmer, more hydrated, and better supported against daily stressors

ADVANCED BIOMMETIC PEPTIDE EMULSION

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SENSITIVE, BALANCED, AND MELANIN RICH FORMULAS?

All BioVital Serums deliver deep hydration, antioxidant protection, and barrier support through a sophisticated complex of glyceryl glucoside, snow mushroom extract, glycosaminoglycans, and hyaluronic acid.

  • Sensitive Skin (Fitzpatrick I–II): Gentle actives reduce irritation, calm inflammation, and strengthen the barrier. Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid penetrates deeply, while zinc PCA and botanical antioxidants support microbiome balance and soothe redness.
  • Balanced Skin (Fitzpatrick III–IV): Brightens, evens tone, and hydrates. Stabilized Vitamin C, peptides, aloe, arrowroot, and Provitamin B5 promote moisture retention, collagen support, and barrier health.
  • Melanin‑Rich Skin (Fitzpatrick V–VI): Targets hyperpigmentation without irritation. Phloretin, Vitamin C, and licorice root extract brighten, improve texture, and maintain even, radiant skin while supporting long-term resilience.
WHY ARE AUBURN ROWE SERUMS TAILORED BY FITZPATRICK SKIN TYPE?

Clinical research supports high-active formulations designed according to Fitzpatrick skin type. Sensitive skin benefits from reduced irritation and enhanced barrier repair, balanced skin from optimized hydration and smoothness, and melanin-rich skin from pigmentation control and overall radiance. Each formula is tested for safety and efficacy, providing targeted results without compromising skin health.

SKINCARE TIPS & LAYERING ADVICE

Auburn Rowe products are formulated to work in harmony, transforming your routine into a ritual of nourishment, protection, and rejuvenation.

In the morning, cleanse gently, then optionally apply a toner or essence. Follow with the BioVital Rejuvenation Serum to deliver multi-level hydration and antioxidants, then the Advanced Biomimetic Peptide Emulsion to prime the skin for the Microbiome Barrier Cream, which locks in moisture and strengthens the barrier. Finish with broad-spectrum SPF 30+ for environmental protection.

In the evening, cleanse and optionally apply a toner or essence. Begin with the Advanced Biomimetic Peptide Emulsion, layer the Epigenetic Repair Complex to support repair and rejuvenation, and seal in hydration with the Microbiome Barrier Cream. This sequence enhances peptide absorption and maximizes overnight recovery.

APPLICATION NOTES

The Advanced Biomimetic Peptide Emulsion can be used morning and evening, applied after toners, exfoliants, or water-based serums, and before richer creams such as the Epigenetic Repair Complex and Microbiome Barrier Cream. For amplified results, pair the Emulsion with the Epigenetic Repair Complex, combining clinically validated matrikines that improve firmness, reduce the appearance of aging, and support skin repair.

ARE AUBURN ROWE PRODUCTS SUITABLE FOR ACNE AND OILY SKIN?

Auburn Rowe formulations are thoughtfully designed to perform across all skin types - including dry, oily, congested, and blemish-prone skin - delivering results without compromise.

WHAT IF I HAVE MELANIN-RICH SKIN BUT ALSO HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN?

Our Melanin-Rich formulations consider the nuanced needs of deeper skin tones, including sensitivity, to ensure comfort and efficacy in every application.

WHY DOES MELANIN-RICH SKIN NEED A DIFFERENT APPROACH IN SKINCARE?

Melanin-rich skin has a unique biology. It contains a higher ratio of eumelanin, larger and more mature melanosomes, and more melanin distributed throughout the upper epidermis. This gives beautiful inherent UV protection -  but also makes the skin more reactive to inflammation, and more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), uneven tone, and discoloration after even minor irritation.

IS MELANIN-RICH SKIN MORE SENSITIVE TO INFLAMMATION?

Yes. These skin types are far more likely to experience prolonged inflammation - and when inflammation lingers, pigmentation changes follow. This means actives cannot only be “brightening” - they must also modulate inflammation at the same time. Targeting pigment production without addressing inflammation can worsen PIH or create rebound pigment.

ARE CERTAIN BRIGHTENING INGREDIENTS LESS IDEAL FOR MELANIN-RICH SKIN?

Many legacy “lightening” agents used historically (like hydroquinone or strong kojic derivatives) can be inconsistent or overly aggressive. Newer next-generation ingredients that directly regulate human tyrosinase -  alongside inflammation-modulating actives -  tend to perform better, and more safely.

WHAT DOES “RIGHT FORMULATION” MEAN FOR MELANIN-RICH SKIN?

Products designed for melanin-rich skin should be formulated to:

  • support the skin’s natural melanogenesis balance
  • down-regulate inflammation triggers
  • even tone without irritation
  • strengthen the barrier to reduce future PIH events

This is a more advanced approach than simply “brightening.” It is about respecting the biology and treating the pigment system with nuance.

In short: melanin-rich skin thrives with formulas that are simultaneously depigmenting and anti-inflammatory - because true clarity requires treating the pigment system and the inflammatory loop at the same time.
